All three of us draw from quite a wide bank of influences, the sound of ‚"Morbid Pace" was inspired mainly from band like Militarie Gun, Fugazi, Drug Church and friends of ours in the hardcore scene.
The inspiration for the tracks come from dissatisfactions and a pure disdain for driving.
"Big beat" is about my hatred for driving and specifically two incidents I had - both caused by two of the worst people I could hope to encounter. The world would be a better place with less cars.
"Rowing" is generally about trying your hardest and struggling to get something going or moving but the process being impeded by factors out of your control. Sometimes it feels like there is nothing you can do to stop it and it results in all out panic.
"Traction slips" is about the perfect drive. The song is a bit of a departure from the other two songs because its theme isn’t routed in frustration. The only time I can stand it is in the early hours of the morning or the dead of night.
The EP title "Morbid Pace" comes from the song "Rowing". To me it means a complete lack of pace / movement or a total struggle to make headway or progress with something.
We all originally come from a small town outside of Manchester. Myself and John have played together for quite a few years, and wanted to start something new. John (Drummer) and Phil used to live together and have jammed in the past. So we all came together on Big Problem some time last year. The way we write is usually me or Phil we have a rough outline of a song, then we bring it to our practice room, all work on it together to create the best sound we possibly can.
Personally my favourite is "Rowing". It’s a solid constant move, the way John (drummer) captured it when recording “Morbid Pace" kicks like a mule.
We aim to start recording again in the very near future, get a couple more releases out this year. Then we will start writing again and see where it takes us.
Playing live is a big thing for us, the aim is to play and sound the best we can every time. We spend a lot of time in our practise room working our live sound, practising how we would perform at a show. Me and John provide backing vocals, we run two cabs either side of the stage to fill out the sound and have parts between songs to tie it together.
