专访 Shame | 追求更快的节奏和更饱满的能量

以更强劲的 Dance Punk 为基底，回归直白迅猛的现场能量，英国乐队 Shame 携全新专辑《Cutthroat》重回锐利姿态。作为英国后朋克复兴浪潮中的重要力量，Shame 始终在风格与场景中保持真实自我。恰逢中国巡演即将启程，UPEE 有幸邀请 Shame 进行一期专访，一同探寻新专背后的创作以及对本次中国巡演的期待，主唱 Charlie Steen 回复了我们的问题。
UPEE：你们在《Cutthroat》中拥有了更多的 Dance Punk 的底色和节奏感，同时似乎在编排上进一步追求“简化”，可以分享在《Cutthroat》的创作过程中，你们的创作状态和灵感有什么变化吗？
Steen：我们就是想做一张现场演起来会特别好玩的专辑，歌曲直接、有强烈的律动。我们不想放慢，想加快节奏。
I think we just wanted to make an album that would be really fun to play live with songs that were direct and have a strong pulse to them. We didn’t want to slow down; we wanted to speed up.
UPEE：可以分享对于《Cutthroat》这张作品在创作过程中给你们带来比较多影响或者启迪的音乐人吗？
Steen：这个我不太确定，但我可以列出我们录音时参考过的一些乐队——
The Chemical Brothers、The Cramps、The Gun Club、 Gorillaz、Dr. Feelgood 和 The Velvet Underground。
UPEE：有不少乐迷将《Cutthroat》与你们的前几张发行进行对比，同时也有一部分乐迷对你们的改变感到不适应，你们对此有什么看法以及会如何形容《Cutthroat》与前几张 Shame 发行的不同？
Steen：我觉得《Cutthroat》更接近我们第一张专辑《Songs of Praise》，速度快、好玩，歌词围绕人物和社会观察。
我们第二、三张专辑的歌词更偏向存在主义，有些曲子更慢、更忧郁。
也正因如此，在第三张专辑巡演期间，我们就决定要写一些现场演出时能量更足的歌。
I think Cutthroat is more similar to our first album Songs of Praise, it is fast and fun with lyrics about characters and social commentary.
Our second and third album had lyrics which were more existential with some songs that were slower and more melancholic.
Because of this when we were touring our third album we decided we wanted to write songs that would have a lot more energy when we play them live.
UPEE：你们至今的四张发行都与不同的制作人进行合作，可以分享这几次不同的合作经历有给你们带来什么不一样的感受吗？
Steen：合作过的每一位制作人都非常出色，我们都很喜欢他们。他们都让我们明白热情和努力有多重要。我们是一支非常民主的乐队，所以每一位合作的制作人在那段时间里都像乐队的大家长，要帮我们一起做决定。
Every producer we have worked with has been incredible and we love them all. I think they’ve all shown us how important passion and hard work is. We’re a very democratic band so ever producer we work with becomes like the bands father for that period, having to help us with decisions.
UPEE：《Cutthroat》的封面是一个位于摩托车上的模糊人物，可以分享这个封面所包含的含义吗？往往听众在收听前会先根据封面产生一个预期或者印象，你们期待通过封面向乐迷传递出什么信息？
Steen：我在回听这张唱片时觉得，画面应该要有动感、要模糊，来呼应这些歌曲的速度和冲击力。色彩方面，我想用红色和黄色，因为它们象征危险。以及，我一直很想用一张死亡之墙的摩托骑手照片做封面，它刚好能体现这种动感和我们讨论的色彩。我问了朋友们，很幸运有人正好有这张照片，最后就用它做了《Cutthroat》的封面。这张照片由 Louie Edison 拍摄。
When I was listening back to this record I thought that the image should be something with movement, something blurred, because of the speed and heaviness of the songs. Then with the colours, I liked the idea of red and yellow as it symbolises danger. I’d always liked the idea of a wall of death motorcycle driver for the cover, and this would have that movement and these colours discussed. I asked my friends and luckily someone had the photo that is used for the album cover of cutthroat. Photo is taken by Louie Edison.
UPEE：你们会如何形容 Shame 的造型风格？
Steen：我们每个成员都有自己的风格，就像我们的音乐品味各不相同一样。但整体来说，我们不想扮成男团，也不想装酷，穿什么舒服就穿什么。
I think each member has an individual style. It’s similar to that we have different music tastes. But the general thing is that we’re not trying to be a boy band, or the cool kids, we wear whatever feels makes us feel comfortable.
UPEE：Shame 作为近年来 Post-Brexit 场景/文化运动中的一支乐队，你们会如何看待这个场景以及“场景”这个词汇？
Steen：涌现出的乐队多到夸张，能看到这一切真的很棒。我们刚起步的时候，它更像一个真正的“场景”，因为不只有音乐人，还有摄影师、画家等等，大家年纪都差不多。现在，当年一起在这个场景里的人，要么在音乐节上偶遇，要么他们的乐队可能已经解散了。
There’s a crazy amount of bands who have emerged and it’s amazing to see. I think when we started out it was much more of a ‘scene’ because it wasn’t just muscians. It was photographers, painters, etc… and we were all the same age. I think now-a-days the people who we were in that scene with, we’ll either see them when we play festivals or the bands they were in might have broken up.
UPEE：你们认为 Post Punk Revival 在当下和你们当初发行《Songs of Praise》时有什么变化？
Steen：大家乐器玩得都厉害多了，而且乐队真的多到爆。
People are a lot better at playing their instruments and there’s a fuck load more bands.
UPEE：对于即将启程的中国巡演有什么期待？
Steen：超棒的演出、燥热的现场、好吃的食物、漫长的夜晚。
Great shows, sweaty rooms, good food, long nights.
UPEE：你们会如何形容 Shame 的现场？
